NICKY BOURGEOIS

 

Nicky is a native of Auckland, New Zealand, and holds degrees in Education and Sociology. Since 2006, Nicky has helped build the progressive learning approach at NIST International School in Thailand. NIST has a global reputation for building 21st century skills by emphasizing exploration, risk-taking, trans-disciplinary learning, and community service. Nicky's students come from all over the world--bringing with them perspectives of over 50 countries. Nicky networks with other classes around the world, and works with teachers as a workshop leader and presenter. She has the unique perspective of being an international school teacher and has been an early adopter of social media and is key to helping guide the Wonderment in forward-thinking approaches to global learning.

KRISTIE OBRECHT

 

Kristie is the Librarian, Media Specialist and Head of the Gifted/Talent Development Program at BF Yancy Elementary School in Esmont, Virginia. She works to actively encourage literacy and curiosity in her students. With a BA degree in Public Relations and Communications at Florida Southern College and a BA degree in Elementary Education, she taught first and third grades for eleven years in Polk County, Florida, including eight years at Lincoln Avenue Academy, a science, math, and technology magnet school. She joined the staff at Yancey as a second and third grade teacher in 2001. She received a Master's degree in School Library and Information Technology, and became Yancey's librarian in 2004.  In 2009, she achieved National Board Certification in School Library Media, a distinction held by fewer than 2% of all school librarians nationwide. Kristie has been an early supporter and partner in helping to build the Wonderment. She and her students have been important in helping to shape programs and projects. Kristie was part of a featured panel at the 2015 ISTE Conference highlighting her school's participation in the Guatemala bus project.

TASI YOUNG

 

Tasi has been the Head of School at Meridian School since 2010. At Meridian School Mr. Young has worked with various non-profits and international organizations to implement educational innovations for the increasing global demands that our students face. He received a Juris Doctorate and bachelor's degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University.

SUE YOCUM

 

Sue is owner of Empower Educational Consulting, based in Chandler Arizona. She received her Bachelors in Education and her Master’s in Education at Southern Utah University. After teaching for several years, she moved into a position with a large publishing company where she became a National Educational Consultant, working directly with teachers in their classrooms. She has been mentored by the world’s most renowned educational researchers. She’s a natural and charismatic leader, teacher, and presenter - her passion for children, education, and learning is evident in all facets of her life. It is Sue’s goal to help make every teacher she comes in contact with a little bit better and a little stronger with skills, strategies, and a desire to inspire and empower their own students.
